Vegas jobs are doing any better, according to a new overall report.

Challenger, Gray, and & Christmas, the outplacement firm said that United States-based employers announced plans to trim 51,114 workers from the payrolls in August, a 23- percent decline from July, when the number of job cuts hit a 16-month high of 66,414.

The August decline follows three consecutive increases in the monthly job-cut total that saw job cuts rise from 36,490 in April to the July peak. The August total, however, was up 47 percent from a year ago, when employers announced just 34,768 job cuts during the month. (more…)

A tech company that is relocating to Las Vegas is holding a job fair with the hopes of filling technical jobs in Vegas.

Barrister Global Services will be getting support in the form of a city-sponsored job fair to help the company fill more than 200 jobs it expects to be hiring for over the next few years.

National Career Fairs is holding a job fair Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m to fill clerical jobs in Vegas, among other positions.

The job fair will be held at the Palace Station hotel.

Several dozen employers are expected to be in attendance and are looking for viable talent for many different types of jobs.

The Swingers Club, one of the new venues opening in the remodeled Plaza Hotel and Casino, said recently it is recruiting for hospitality jobs in Vegas.

The club is holding auditions for staff next week. Those auditioning could get the coveted role in a reality TV show the venue is planning.

Auditions will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m at the Las Vegas Club on Fremont.

The venue is hiring for bar backs and cocktail servers, among other positions. (more…)

The latest second quarter financial results from Bancorp is out and has reported strong capital ratios, leaving many experts wondering if this a good indicator of strengthening Vegas jobs.

Vegas jobs have taken a huge hit from the recession, and the city continues to be plagued with high unemployment.

Western Liberty Bancorp, Inc. WLBC +0.33% , the holding company for Service1st Bank of Nevada (Service1st Bank), today reported exceptionally strong capital ratios, solid core deposits and a recently authorized share repurchase program.

With a second quarter $4.4 million provision for loan losses, Western Liberty recorded a loss of $4.6 million, or $0.30 per share, in the second quarter, compared to a loss of $409,000, or $0.03 per share in the first quarter of 2011, and a loss of $1.7 million or $0.15 per share in the second quarter a year ago when it was solely a shell company. In the first six months of 2011, Western Liberty recorded a loss of $5.0 million, or $0.33 per share, which included a $5.7million provision for loan losses. (more…)
