Companies hire for retail jobs in Vegas

Companies are looking to hire many for retail jobs in Vegas, among other locations around the country.

According to a survey conducted by job search engine, seasonal hiring is well underway.

The National Retail Federation is forecasting a healthy holiday season ahead, expecting more part-time and seasonal jobs to be created this year versus last year. To find out what kinds of jobs are available right now and where they are, we analyzed more than 80,000 jobs on Indeed that have relevant seasonal and part-time job title keywords.

So what is the most popular job?

Sales rep took the top prize. But major shipping companies such as FedEx and UPS have numerous openings for driver and material handler positions. Positions include:

IT jobs in Vegas grow

A new survey posits that the number of IT jobs in Vegas seems to be growing.

During October, retail organizations in the United States had more than 2,000 job ads available online that required e-commerce skills and experience, according to WANTED Analytics, a source of business intelligence for the talent marketplace.

Overall hiring demand for e-commerce professionals has increased 9% compared to the same one-month period in 2011 and 40% versus October of 2010.

Because of bigger online sales, retailers are building more robust websites, which are accessible through many channels.

E-commerce skills are most often specified in technical, sales, and marketing occupations. Among the most commonly advertised job titles requiring an e-commerce background are Java Developer, Web Developer, Merchant Services Associate, Project Manager, Business Analyst, .NET Developer, and Marketing Director. IT and computer programming professionals often need to build or customize an e-commerce platform, while marketing skills are needed to drive traffic to the website, often with promotions.

The metropolitan areas where e-commerce professionals were most in-demand were Chicago, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and Boston. While retailers in Chicago placed the highest number of job ads for this talent pool during October, one of the highest year-over-year growth areas was actually New York where demand grew more than 74% since October of 2011.

But these candidates aren’t easy to find. Recruiters in Minneapolis, Minnesota and San Francisco, California are currently experiencing some of the most challenging overall recruiting conditions. Fierce competition among retailers to source candidates and fill positions has emerged in these two areas. For example, retailers in Minneapolis leave job ads online for an average of 7 weeks, meaning it is likely to take about 1.5 weeks longer to fill e-commerce positions than on average across the United States.
