Templates focus on Vegas jobs

New templates for background checks will help those hiring for Vegas jobs.

The Nevada Equal Rights Commission (NERC) will soon debut online templates to assist and educate Nevada public employers in complying with state law regarding conducting criminal history (background) checks on potential employees.

The templates will debut online on NERC’s webpage at www.nvdetr.org/nerc.htm in the upcoming week.

“We are pleased to be able to provide these online templates for Nevada public employers and in educating and assisting them in complying with state law,” said Kara Jenkins, Administrator for the Commission.

“The law does not require the use of these templates, but rather we hope they may be utilized as tools for all employers, both public and private employers.”

The state requires public employers (state, city, incorporated city or unincorporated town, town board, county and local level[s] of government) to ensure careful consideration and fairness to all qualified applicants (for classified and unclassified service) including those applicants that may have a criminal history or “record.”

Failure to do so may result in a NERC charge, investigation and settlement at employer’s expense. Additional guidance is available on NERC’s website.
